Split Pea & Ham Soup

2 cups dry split peas, rinsed
1½ cups cooked cubed ham
1 onion, chopped
1 cup celery with leaves, chopped
¼ teaspoon black pepper
2 cups chicken broth
2 cups water
Salt to taste

Layer the ingredients in slow cooker starting from top of list - do not mix.
Place cover on slow cooker and cook on low 8-10 hours or high 4-6 hours.
If desired, mash peas to thicken.
